A Message from Our Superintendent

Greetings from Capitan Municipal Schools!

We are excited to announce that all three of our schools have earned the spotlight schools designation from the New Mexico Public Education Department. This incredible achievement highlights the hard work, dedication, and collaboration of our students, staff, and the entire Capitan community.

What Does It Mean to Be a Spotlight School?

To earn the spotlight schools designation, a school must score in the top 25% of all schools in the state. This ranking is based on several factors, including:

  • Student proficiency and growth in subjects such as math, reading, and science.
  • Graduation rates that reflect the percentage of students completing their education.
  • Attendance rates to show the commitment of students to be present and engaged.
  • College and career readiness, ensuring students are prepared for their next steps after high school.

Capitan Municipal Schools have excelled in these key areas, and this recognition is a direct result of the hard work and commitment of our students, teachers, and support staff. This achievement not only speaks to the excellence of our educational programs but also to the dedication and efforts of the entire Capitan community.

A Team Effort

While our students and educators are central to this success, we recognize the critical role our parents and community play in helping to foster a culture of learning. The consistent support from families, local organizations, and community members has been instrumental in creating an environment where our students can thrive.

Together, we have built a learning environment that encourages growth, celebrates achievement, and supports each student’s journey. This spotlight status is truly the result of our collective effort—students, teachers, parents, and the community working as one.

Looking Toward the Future

While we are incredibly proud of this accomplishment, we know our journey is far from over. At Capitan Municipal Schools, we are committed to continuous improvement. Our goal is to be the best school district in New Mexico, and we will continue to focus on:

  • Targeted academic support to help every student succeed, ensuring no one is left behind.
  • Expanding extracurricular opportunities to support students’ growth beyond academics and help them explore their passions.
  • Innovative teaching strategies that make learning engaging and prepare students for the future.
  • Strengthening our community partnerships to enhance the support network for our students.

Thank You for Your Support

We extend a heartfelt thank you to all the students, staff, parents, and community members who have contributed to this achievement. This recognition belongs to all of us, and together, we will continue working to ensure the success of our students and the future of Capitan Municipal Schools.

Let’s continue the great work, build on this success, and make Capitan Municipal Schools the best it can be!
